Alejandro took his last ride in an 18 wheeler and was escorted by his family and friends. A Military Burial followed at Mount Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements were with Pecos Funeral Home.
Born in Balmorhea, Texas, to Gregoria and Jose Salcido, Alejandro lived a life rich in love, hard work, and devotion to his family and friends. He was a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic. He enjoyed teaching others how to drive 18 wheelers, often lending out his trucks so his friends could take their driving tests.
Alejandro proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during peacetime in Korea and traveled to many other destinations. He returned home to build a life rooted in integrity and generosity. He married his beloved Angelita Salcido, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a home full of love, raising their children and grandchildren with the values of family, perseverance, and kindness.
A truck driver from the age of 12, Alejandro’s early memories included looking through the steering wheel of an 18-wheeler, hauling cattle in a truck trailer made of wood. His first boss, Mrs. Deakins, would always pay his tickets with a smile so he could continue driving. That passion for the road led Alejandro to a lifelong career as a professional truck driver, a career he took great pride in. His love of rodeo ran just as deep, he was a true cowboy with cherished memories of bull riding and even winning a first-place belt buckle. He also found joy in watching the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, often calling his sister Alicia to cheer on their teams together.
Alejandro had a heart of gold and a trusting soul. His handshake was his word. He never met a stranger, making friends wherever he went. His joyful spirit, infectious smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a man of humble beginnings, but his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity is immeasurable.
Alejandro is preceded in death by his wife Angelita Salcido, his parents, his brothers Benjamin and George Salcido, his sister Adelida Lara (Juan), and his granddaughter Heather LaReece Jasso, many family members and great friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Torres (Andy) and Lori Asbury (JT); his son, Alejandro Salcido Jr. (Debora); his sister, Alicia Rodriguez; his brother, Jose Salcido (Mary); and his grandchildren Trisha Torres (Mardin), Andy Torres Jr. (Amanda); Kimberly Haile (Drew) Annie Salcido, Joseph Salcido, Christie Asbury, Demi, Danika, and Kiana Rickard. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Ava Grace Torres, Andrew Torres III, and Roman Haile. Many family members and great friends, especially Zeke, Isabel, Diane, Byanka, Miros and Irene.
Pallbearers were Joseph Salcido, Robert Rodriguez, Filiberto Gonzales Jr., Andy Torres, Jr., Eulogio Carrasco Jr., Auden Luján, Joe Llanas and Nikki Galan.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered prayers, food, flowers, kind words, and support during this difficult time. To Dr. Garcia and all the doctors and nurses at MCH CCU that treated him so kindly. As well as everyone at Monahans Physical Therapy. Alejandro’s light will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In Alejandro’s own words, we say goodbye with his favorite song:“Turn out the lights, the party’s over. They say that all good things must come to an end.Call it a night, the party is over, and tomorrow starts the same old thing again.”
