Betty Armstrong

Effie Elizabeth Betty Billeiter Armstrong passed away, surrounded by a loving family on October 8, 2013, in Monahans, Texas. She was born March 7, 1927, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Effie and Joseph S. Billeiter. She attended and graduated from Kerrville Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas. Betty married Weldon Scott Armstrong, Sr. on January 18, 1948 in Pecos, Texas and they made Pecos their home.
Betty was a wonderful mother to four children: Scott Jr., John Cole, April, and David. Her husband Scott was a rancher in Reeves and Culberson counties, and Betty always cherished her life as a ranch wife, particularly enjoying all the years and memories of ranching the Dillyhunt, Rock House and Apache Ranches in Culberson County.
Owing to her roots as a Louisiana girl, Betty was a wonderful cook, especially when it came to preparing traditional Cajun dishes such as jambalaya and gumbo. Many great Thanksgiving meals were enjoyed by the Armstrongs and Billeiters at the family home.
She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Catherines Catholic Church in Pecos. Being a Catholic, she was also a big Notre Dame football fan. The family always knew what channel the TV would be turned to on Saturday afternoon in the fall.
Betty was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. And whether she was referred to as Ma, Mal, or Grandma Betty, she was the best Grandma and Great Grandma anyone could ever hope for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Effie and Joseph Billeiter, her husband, Weldon Scott Armstrong, Sr. and by three brothers: C.W., David, and Johnny Billeiter. Betty is survived by her children Scott Regina Armstrong Jr. of Pecos, John Cole Sam Armstrong of Pecos, April Rudy Perez of Edgewood, NM, and David Vickie Armstrong of Monahans. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one brother Joe Beryl Billeiter of Pecos, two sistersinlaw, Hope Armstrong Wilson and Bana Armstrong, both of Pecos, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, October 11, at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Pecos, with burial to follow at Mount Evergreen Cemetery. Rosary will be Thursday, October 10th, 7:30 to 9:00 pm at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Catherines Catholic Church, the West of the Pecos Museum, or a charity of your choice.
