Bobbie Virginia Majors Avary, 99, of Barstow, Tx, passed away Sep 21, 2024 in Barstow, Tx. Bobbie Virginia Majors, daughter of O.C. and Winnie Majors, Was born August 6. 1925 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Her middle name; Virginia, was after the battleship U.S.S. Virginia that had brought her daddy home from France after World War I. Coming to Barstow in 1929. She lived five miles northwest of Barstow on a farm. She has one sister, Theresa Walker, and has always enjoyed her. Pleasant childhood memories were playing at grandparents homes, the Majors and Ezzells, swimming in irrigation canals and riding horses with friends. She remembers her Daddy's first tractor was bought with "bonus" from World War I and her Mother raised chickens and turkeys and fried the "best fried chicken". Rode the bus to school, beginning in the Red Rock School house and graduated in the school house that burned. Joined the First Christian Church during early teens and has been an active member. In 1943, she worked at the Pecos Air Base, later Modern Food Market, then to Ward County Irrigation Dist. No. 1, helping Mr. J.E. Echols, Tax Assessor-Collector, also job was in conjunction with the Tax Assessor-Collector for Barstow Ind. School District. In 1955 Bobbie married GQ “Shine” Avary Jr. She and Shine also lived in Pyote in one of the barracks buildings, while Avary & Allgood were in the cotton warehouse business, having leased the air base buildings. She resigned from Irrigation District in 1971.
Preceded by husband, GQ 'Shine' Avary, father and mother-OC and Winnie Ezzell Majors and niece, Sherri Ann Goode.
Bobbie is survived by sister-Theresa Majors Walker, as well as nephew Mike Bonilla and his children, Ava, Chloe and Mason Bonilla.
Visitation for Bobbie will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Pecos Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church/First Methodist Church in Pecos, Texas
Interment will follow at Barstow Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Bobbie will be Matthew Florez, Rex Allgood, Trey Allgood, Mike Allgood, Lee Ryan, Bill Oglesby, Pamela Robinson, Elizabeth Kobza
Bobbie's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the family of Roger Harrison, and Deidrea Payne, as well as so many others who made her life wonderful and full of love.
