Loving wife and beloved mother Cenaida “Cindy” Hernandez, age 81 , passed away peacefully on September 3, 2020, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was born to and is preceded in death by her parents, Angel and Francisca Leyva. She was born and raised in Balmorhea, TX.
She is also preceded in death by her brother, Enrique Leyva. She is survived by brothers Joe Leyva and wife Eloisa and Ismael Leyva and wife Candeladia.
Cindy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Tony Hernandez, whom she married on August 28, 1960. She is also survived by her son, Danny Hernandez and wife Sandra; daughter, Amanda Mata and husband David; six grandchildren Joe Angel, Christopher, and Michael Hernandez and David Jr., Andrea, and Victoria Mata; plus numerous nieces and nephews, and many many loving friends.
Cindy wore many hats during her life. She worked as a florist for many years and was a cafeteria manager in the P-B-T ISD, as well as a caretaker for the elderly. She was a devout Catholic and a member of the Catholic Daughters. And a regular volunteer at the West Texas Food Bank for many years.
Cindy’s most favorite pastime was watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers on TV next to the love of life, Tony.
She loved to sew, cook, bake, plant, and care for her beautiful garden. She also loved to travel, but she especially loved going camping.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at the St. Catherine Church courtyard at 7 p.m. Memorial and graveside ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery. The family asks in place of flowers, please consider donating to the West Texas Food Bank in her memory.
OUTSIDE EVENT:
(Due to COVID-19 restrictions, events will be held outside. Friends are invited and asked to maintain social distancing, as well as to wear a mask at all times.)
