Charlie Melton Wein, 71, of Pecos, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023 at his home in Lubbock, TX.
Charlie was born in Corpus Christi to Charlie E. and JoAnn Wein on July 7, 1952. He attended Pecos High School where he was an Academic All American and All-State in football and earned a full football scholarship to Trinity University and then transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and while at SWOSU he met his wife, Raynell Stong. They were married on May 18, 1974 in Seiling, Oklahoma. After graduation, they moved to Pecos, where he worked as an electrician and bookkeeper for his father at C & G Electric Refrigeration Service for 10 years. He then became a beloved coach and teacher at Pecos High School for 22 years. He was a coach for both sports and academics and led the UIL Accounting team to Regionals several times over. He was an avid jug fisherman and loved Lake Texoma. He loved to watch the Texas Longhorns, play poker and drink cold beer. He had a great sense of humor, he was always willing to help anyone in need and he loved his family, especially his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie E. Wein; his mother, JoAnn Wein; and his brother, Dean Wein. Charlie is survived by his brothers, Paul Wein and wife Pam of California; Pat Wein of Pecos, and sister, Jodee Wein-McIver of Arkansas; his loving wife of 49 years, Raynell; his daughters, JoAnn and husband, Michael Keith of Llano and Lauren and husband, Chris Buckberry of Lubbock. He had 4 grandchildren, Blake, Charlie, Ethan and Ruth and one great grandchild, Aspyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Paul Wein, Scott Wein, Chris Buckberry, Michael Keith, Blake Keith, and Charlie Keith.
Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and viewing on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9:00 am - 1:30 pm at Pecos Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday October, 28, 2023 at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Pecos.
Arrangements are by Pecos Funeral Home.
