Cosme Ortega, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather passed peacefully on Wednesday July 28, 2021.
Cosme was 60 years old and a lifelong resident of Pecos, TX. He was born on December 14, 1960 in Pecos Texas to Ylario and Rufina Ortega.
Cosme was a devoted father who loved all of his children. He attended the Pecos High School where he graduated. In 1987 he attended the Police Academy and became a Police Officer.
Cosme was a Sergeant for the Pecos Police Department and served 31 years, he retired in 2018.
He loved spending time with family and friends, loved being a DJ and listening to music. He also enjoyed playing Madden with his friends and family. Everyone who knew Cosme, knew what a comedian he was. Even in the most serious of situations, he would have to throw in a joke just to put a smile on people’s face.
He will be forever dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
Cosme Ortega is proceeded in death by his parents, Ylario and Rufina Ortega and his brother, Ylario Ortega Jr.
Cosme Ortega is survived by his wife, Martha (Elaine) Ortega his sons Cosme Ortega Jr. (35) of Odessa, TX. Mario Rangel (36) of Littlefield, TX. Brian Rangel (33) of Pecos, TX. John Estrada Ortega (42) of Phoenix, AZ. His daughters, Monica Sarinana (31) of Monahans, TX. Jazmine Guajardo (27) of Pecos, TX. Sarah Ortega (25) of Hobbs, NM. Sister Virginia Ortega Alvarez of Carlsbad, New Mexico and his grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 4 at 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. Rosary will follow at 7:00 pm at the Pecos Funeral Home.
Mass will be held at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church on Thursday, August 5 at 10:00 am. Mask are required at the church and at the Funeral Home, Reception following funeral mass will be at Reeves County Civic Center. Burial services will be at a later date.
Pallbearers will be the Pecos Police Department.
