Elias pursued knowledge and obtained his GED from PBTISD, marking the beginning of a path characterized by dedication and resilience. It was on January 16, 1960, in Pecos, Texas, where he united his life with Maria Del Rosario Acosta in marriage. A skilled mechanic assistant at the Pecos Automotive Proving Grounds and a vigilant Correctional Officer at Reeves County Detention Center, Elias's work ethic shone brightly in every role he undertook. Ultimately retiring from PBT ISD after serving as a custodian for numerous years, he left an indelible mark on all those he encountered.

His faith was unwavering as a devoted member of the Santa Rosa Catholic Church, actively engaging in the men's Spanish choir. Additionally, Elias found joy and camaraderie as a member of the Evening Optimist Club, embodying the spirit of community service and goodwill.

Today we mourn the loss of Elias alongside the memories of his mother Enedina Galindo and siblings Ruben Montanez, Velia Montanez, Leonard Pallan, and Lucia Gutierrez. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law Juan Castro.

Elias's spirit lives on through his beloved spouse Rosa Payan; daughters Veronica Castro and Velma Payan of Pecos, Texas; son Elias Payan Jr of Odessa, Texas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Their lives enriched by his love and guidance stand as a testament to his devotion to family.

In honoring Elias's journey beyond this earthly realm, we extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Pecos Nursing Home, Dr. Serrano, and the dedicated individuals at Reeves Regional Health. The kindness shown by special friends and acquaintances who visited during his time of care is deeply appreciated by the Payan family.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, let us find solace in knowing that Elias G. Payan's memory will forever remain etched in our hearts. May God's embrace provide comfort to all who mourn his passing.

May God bless you all.
