Elma Elia Cervantes, 84, of Pecos, Texas, passed away on March 11, 2025.

She was born on August 10, 1940, in Mulato, Chihuahua, to parents Martin and Cruz Valenzuela. Elma was a dedicated and hardworking mother and wife, known for her unwavering love, selflessness, and strength.

On June 21, 1961, she married the love of her life, Ruben Acosta Cervantes, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua. Together, for 65 years, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with seven loving children.

Elma and Ruben eventually moved to Alpine, Texas, where she became an active member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Her faith was an essential part of her life, and she found great joy in her church community. Later in life as her children left Alpine, they moved to Pecos, Tx where she was able to spend more time with her children and grandchildren.

Elma, better known as “Lala” by her grandchildren will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and devotion to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, sharing stories, and creating cherished memories. She had a warm spirit and a gentle heart, always ready to offer encouragement and support to those around her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Cruz Valenzuela; her son Guadalupe; brothers: Jose, Raul, Baudelia, Oscar and Naldo; and sisters: Elva Beltran and Estella Quiroz. 

Elma is survived by her husband Ruben Cervantes, sons: Ruben Cervantes Jr. and wife Rebecca, Jose Cervantes and wife Mary; daughters: Martha Milliorn and husband Bobby; Angelica Valenzuela and husband Steve; Blanca Golson and husband Ronnie; Cynthia Fostel and husband Brett; sisters: Elpidia Trejo and husband Jesus; and Maria Elena Valenzuela. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren: Daniel Cervantes, Chloe Vaille, Ruben Cervantes III, Dylan Cervantes, Jose Antonio Cervantes, Carlos Cervantes, Nicholus Cervantes, Brittany Alcala, Jordan Milliorn, Kaleb Valenzuela, Kenzie Valenzuela, Tyler Smith, Logan Smith, Michael Smith, Derek Fostel, and JB Fostel; 3 great grandchildren and many other family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Daniel Cervantes, Dylan Cervantes, Jose Antonio Cervantes, Kaleb Valenzuela, Tyler Smith, and Derek Fostel.

 Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben Cervantes III, Carlos Cervantes, Nicholus Cervantes, Logan Smith, Michael Smith, and JB Fostel 

A viewing will be held from 5:00-7:00pm followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos, Texas. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church in Pecos.
