Ezequiel L. Gonzalez, 97, of Pecos, TX was called in to the BIG RANCH in the sky by his MAKER on September 3, 2013 as he resided with his granddaughter in Alpine TX.
This gentle cowboy was born on April 10, 1916 to Dionisio Maria Gonzalez in Redford, TX. On January 14, 1939, he married a beautiful gal by the name of Ramona Fuentes of Balmorhea, TX. Together they had 4 children Pablo, Socorro, Felix Francisco.
He was a ranch hand at many cattle roundups for the X Ranch and the O6 Ranch at the Davis Mountains. He was also a trusted ranch foreman for the Espy Miller Ranch for many years until moving his family to Pecos, TX.
After moving to the Pecos area, he worked at the Old West High School and then later to the newly built Crockett Jr. High where he did maintenance for the building for 30 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Charros Association for many years representing the Charro culture at many a parades and other special events. He was a member of Santa Rosa Catholic Church Mens Choir in the mid 80s and very active in church activities. He was also a Cursillista.
Most of his siblings his parents passed away during the Great Depression leaving him, his sister, Manuela Villesca mother of the late Jesse Villesca PHS Teacher and a younger brother, Felis Gonzalez World War II veteran orphaned. Suffering through many hardships, his faith is what saw him through. As a devout Catholic, Ezequiel, was a great example to his grandchildren of the Christians they should be and the gentleman his grandsons needed to be. Constant prayer was like breathing to him, always praying for his loved ones. He was the root and the trunk of our family.
He is being welcomed in heaven by his parents Dionisio Maria Gonzalez, his loving wife of 65 yrs., Ramona F Gonzalez, his two sons, Francisco and Felix Gonzalez, his many siblings but the ones he knew best, Manuela Villesca and Felis Gonzalez, his daughter in laws and many many friends but best of all by his TATA DIOS as he referred to our HEAVENLY FATHER.
He is survived by his son, Pablo and his wife Elma Gonzalez of Pecos. Two daughters, Socorro and her husband Albert Vasquez of Tucson, AZ and Mary Bell and her husband Jerry Castellano of Alpine, TX. 17 grandchildren proudly call him Welito Grandfather, 35 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. He is survived by many distant relatives from the Stanton, Odessa Midland area as well.
