George Vasquez

George Vasquez, age 90 of Pecos, Texas passed away on March 2, 2018 in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation will begin Thursday March 8, 2018 from 9:00 am to 9:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Pecos Funeral Home.
Rosary will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church at 7:00 PM.
The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday March 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Most Reverent Bishop Mark Seitz celebrating the mass.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery

George was born at Ruidosa, Texas to Jesus and Maria Vasquez on November 17, 1927. He married Lois Matta on December 25, 1950. He served as a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force. He later owned and operated Terrazas Furniture, which was later renamed Vasquez Home Furnishings. George retired and closed his furniture store in 1999.

On January 7, 1977 George was ordained as permanent deacon for the Diocese of El Paso and was one of the first permanent deacons ordained in West Texas. Deacon George served at St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Santa Rosa Catholic Church as well as the other catholic parishes in the surrounding area. Following his retirement, he continued his service to the Lord by becoming Chaplain at the Reeves County Detention Center 1 & 2 and held that position for 12 years.

Deacon George is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, and his son, Thomas Allen Vasquez.

George is survived by his wife Lois Vasquez, his sons David Vasquez, Eddie Vasquez, and Mickey Vasquez, his daughters Suzi Brizzi and partner Bonnie Valles and Milissa Aranda and husband Arthur Aranda, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

The Vasquez family wish to extend their sincere thanks to all the wonderful people for their prayers and support as well as those who provided meals. The family would also like to thank Star Hospice of Odessa for their care and compassion during this trying time.
