James Garcia, 54, of Pecos, Texas, after completing his mission here on Earth, was called by God to his eternal resting place on May 28, 2024. James was born on July 1, 1969 in Pecos, TX, to Edward and Aida Garcia. After attending Pecos High School, James went on to serve as a United States Marine and was a proud Veteran of the Persian Gulf War, where he served during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He earned the following Decorations and Medals; Rifle Marksman Badge, National Defense, three Meritorious Masts, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two stars, South Asia Service Medal with two conduct stars, Good Conduct Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
After returning to his hometown, James joined the Pecos VFW Post 6437 in 1990 ( and later became the youngest Post Commander). James earned and Associates degree from Odessa College and also graduated from Odessa College Police Academy. Always looking for opportunities to further himself professionally, he earned numerous certificates and worked as a Security Guard prior to being accepted into Border Patrol, Class of 278. James eventually transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement where he retired in 2017.
His family and friends will remember him as a man who valued hard work, honesty, and integrity. James loved to talk and offer career advice to any one never meeting a stranger, as they say. He traveled extensively visiting six of the seven continents. He could speak many languages including English, Spanish, Japanese, Tagalog, and was learning how to speak Mandarin. He loved to cook and spend time with family and friends. He always strived to do his absolute best to the best of his ability. Those who knew him know he planned to get a food truck and make one of a kind hamburgers traveling to area festivals. He loved his children and grandchildren and always wanted them to have the best and worked very hard to make certain his family had all that he could provide.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Monica, as well as his children Victoria Garcia, Sabrina Garcia, and Andrew Garcia; three grandchildren Alessandro, Jayden and Jr (Augustin). He is also survived by his mother, Aida Garcia, brothers; Rene Garcia, Eric Garcia and sisters; Denise Garcia, Crystal (David) Colon and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Garcia and his loving grandmother Alejandra Gamboa Garcia who raised him from a young age.
Please join us in celebrating his life Tuesday, June 4, 2024 with visitation at Pecos Funeral Home form 1 pm to 9 pm with Rosary at 7 pm.
Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10 am at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with interment following at the Barstow Cemetery in Barstow, Texas.
