Jesus H. "Chuy" Muniz, 76, passed away on February 21, 2025, in McAllen, TX.
Chuy is survived by his wife, Elvira Muniz; four children, Jesus Muniz (Delma), Monica Muniz (Eduardo), Rosanna Muniz, and Edward Licon (Tricia); five grandchildren, Patrick Muniz (Greg), Noah Fernandez, Katherine Fernandez, Tara Licon, and Tiffany Licon; two siblings, Monce Acosta, and Chuco Muniz.
Chuy’s entrepreneurial spirit emerged early—at just 7 years old, he earned a nickel for every Bracero he directed to a local bar. With his earnings, he bought a shoe shine kit and started offering boot shines for a dime. This early drive laid the foundation for his future successes. As an adult, Chuy earned a business degree, owned and operated the Downtowner Liquor Store in Pecos, TX, founded APCI/AMTEX (a company that repairs offshore rigs, naval ships, and large vessels), and later ventured into real estate with a Century 21 franchise in McAllen, TX. Chuy also served in the Army as part of a Field Artillery unit, and later served 20+ years as a Staff Sergeant in the Texas National Guard with the 49th Armored Division. He also worked at Anchor Foods, National Gypsum Company, Dean Foods, and spent 15+ years at Duval/Pennzoil Sulphur Company.
Beyond his work, Chuy loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and (unsurprising to most) gambling in Las Vegas. He enjoyed relaxing on the beach at South Padre Island, and participated in BBQ cook-offs with the Puro Rancho Cooking Team. Chuy was also involved with several organizations, including the Rotary Club, Lions Club, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and the American Legion.
A celebration of Chuy’s life will be held at Pecos Funeral Home on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Visitation will be from 9-11am, with a Celebration of Life service starting at 10am. Burial service will be at 11am at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. Chuy was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Rosa Muniz; nine siblings, Candelaria Dominguez, Jimmy Contreras, Dora Zaragoza, Lolo Muniz, Manuel Muniz, Melio Muniz, Nanes Muniz, Rey Muniz, and Chillin Muniz.
