Ludivina “Ludy” Herrera Valencia, 69, of Pecos, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
Ludivina was born on August 1, 1952 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Francisco A. Herrera and Francisca Sanchez Herrera. She grew up and went to school in Pecos, Texas and graduated from Pecos High School in 1970. Ludy, married Louis A. Valencia on August 5, 1978, at Santa Rosa de Lima Roman Catholic Church, in Pecos, Texas. In 1971, she then began working at Fonville Jewelry as a sales clerk under the directions of Mr. and Mrs. John Fonville. Mr. Bill Cooksey began to guide and asked Ludy, if she’d like to learn about watch repair. Ludy took onto it quick and loved working with small parts. A year later, Bill promoted her to jewelry repair tackling both jewelry and watch repair. After Bill and Jo Evelyn Cooksey took over Fonville Jewelry, Ludy became more engaged and attended watch repair school, and received certifications in watch repair from Pulsar, Seiko, Rolex, and many more. Ludy and her best friend Rosa Carrasco worked and gained the trust of the Fonville and Cooksey families developed a family bond with those families. Bill would always say “those are my girls” and trusted them with everything without a doubt. Ludy and Rosa worked with Bill until the closure of Fonville Jewelry. After the closure of Fonville Jewelry, Ludy began working at Walmart as a cashier and months later was offered the position in the cash office, counting and ordering money, balancing registers, and the store deposits. She quickly fell in love with her new work and work family and they with her. Many loyal customers of Fonville Jewelry would call, come to the house, and find her at Walmart and would ask her for and about repairs, to check on her, and just to see her smile and big eyes. Ludy worked at Walmart for 14 years then retired to take care of her mother, Francisca.
Ludy was a very devout Roman Catholic, instilling the faith in her home and everyone she met. Ludy was a Catechist and taught Catechism and Confirmation classes for about 10 plus years. She was a member of “Las Guadalupanas” a, Marian devotion society. Ludy had the opportunity to meet several Holy Priests and Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tyler Texas and the Archdiocese of New Orleans, all loved her and kept in contact with her. Ludy had a great devotion to praying the Rosary, and prayed for all she met, loved and for their intentions. Ludy always said her faith and love for God is what keep her moving forward and made her the person she was.
Ludivina had several nicknames given by friends and family, many knew her as Ludy, Ludy Lou, Ludybird, and Trudy. Ludy is preceded in death by her brother Manuel Herrera, sister Hortencia “Tencha” Rivas, father, Francisco Herrera, and Son Matthew Isaac “CHOOCH” Valencia.
Ludivina “Ludy” is survived by her husband Louis A. Valencia, her eldest son Louis Brian Valencia and wife Elena Hinojos Valencia, youngest son, Joseph Valencia, and her grandchildren Rudy Beltran and Bella Lucero Valencia (Ludy’s pumpkin). Sisters Aida Contreras, Irma Martinez, and Mother Francisca S. Herrera, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 7, 2021 from 5p.m.-9p.m. Wednesday December 8, 2021 9a.m.-9p.m. Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10a.m. at Santa Rosa de Lima Roman Catholic Church in Pecos, Texas with internment at Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos, Texas. Arrangements are by Pecos Funeral Home.
