Maria Florez

Maria Melendez-Florez passed away on Feb 9, 2019, in Pecos, Texas. She was 91 years old.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 from 9:00 am to 9:00 PM at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.
Rosary Will be held on Tuesday Fe, 12, 2019 at 7:30 PM at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be held on Wednesday Feb. 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery
She was born in Ruidosa, Texas on November 29, 1927. Her parents were Francisca (Kika ) Cano- Melendez and Joaquin Melendez. She worked as a cafeteria worker at LaMar Elementary School until her retirement. Before that, she worked many years at Bens Spanish Inn. She was known for her delectable biscochos (wedding cookies), which were enjoyed at many weddings & quincereas and her delicious pies and empanadas.
She was a member of Santa Rosa Catholic Church, and was very active in the church, was a member of the Guadalupanans, and Curisilistas. For many years, she and her best friend, Lolita Wright, were a team, working tirelessly in the Santa Rosa Hall kitchen, fundraising for the church, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisca (Kika) Cano Melendez and Joaquin Melendez, her daughter, Amelia Florez Hollis, her sister, Pimi Gomez of El Paso, Tx., three brothers, David Melendez, Roberto Melendez, and Ted Porras, all of Barstow, Texas.
She is survived by her daughters, Estella Florez Carrasco (Arnulfo) Maria Olga Florez, sons, Ruben Florez (Norma), Nicky Florez, one sister, Virginia Garcia (Ambrosio -Pete), 15 grandchildren-Belinda Salcido, Adam Anaya, Kim Mayo, Janette Lyles, Sara Florez, Stacy Underwood, Jason Alvarez, Yvonne (Bonnie) Rowe, Eric, Joshua and Joseph Florez; Isaiah, Eliseus (Ellis),Alexis (Alex) Marquez and Mariah Marquez and 21 Great Grandchildren, 9 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Adam Anaya, Jason Alvarez, Isaiah, Eliseus, & Alexis Marquez, Ryan Salcido.
