Mark Lewis

Mark Lewis died tragically in a farming accident on November 19, 2013 in Balmorhea, TX. Services are Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos, TX. Visitation will follow then a memorial will be held at the Saragosa Multipurpose Center in Saragosa, TX at 2:00 PM.

Mark was born December 21, 1963 in El Paso, TX, to Andrew and Joy Lewis. He grewup in Reeves County, TX, where he fostered his love of all things agriculture, winning grandchampion prizes for steer and swine, and earning the award of Star Greenhand in FFA at Pecos High School.

Mark went on to graduate from Tarleton State University, where friends called him Cactus. Following his passion, he worked in various phases of agriculture across Texas, the last farming in Balmorhea, having returned to the area after spending a number of years in Tom Green then Nolan Counties. Mark also partnered with his mother in the motel business, sharing ownership of the Cactus Motel, his namesake, in Balmorhea.

Mark had a generous and jovial nature, and was famous for his boisterous sense of humor and his passion for pulling off a good prank. Mark enjoyed the company of many dear friends and loved ones, and was wellknown for his loyalty, dedication and compassion. Working sunup to sun down, he never shirked a duty and never refused anyone in need, always there to lend a hand with a ready smile for all. He was truly a one of a kind and he will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Mark was preceded in death by his father and brother, GL Lewis. He is survived by his mother and brother, Barry Lewis of Balmorhea, sister Elizabeth Lewis Davis Michael of San Antonio, nephews Andy Lewis of Alpine, James Lewis of College Station, Allan Lewis of Ft. Davis, Dillon Davis of San Antonio and nieces Dana Lewis Hoss Brad of Ness City, KS and Nikole Davis of San Antonio, TX and one grandniece and one grandnephew, as well as many beloved extended relatives and friends.
