Martha Virginia Conoly passed away on May 19, 2016. She was born December 16, 1935 in Urbana, Arkansas to Flora Bertha and Goyne Talmage Hinson. She lost her mother at 11 years old, and with her father unable to care for her and her sister, she was raised in Texarkana by her Aunt Ester. Before her senior year in high school, she moved to Van Horn to live with her Aunt Margie, and she graduated from Van Horn High School in 1953. She then attended beauty school in El Paso and worked at a local coffee shop. It was at the coffee shop where she met her husband, John E. Conoly. They married in 1954. She lost her first son (John Michael) at 3 years old. Even through all her losses she remained a loving and strong person who always lived by the mantra "life is good". She had a strong faith in God and believed in his will.
John & Martha started Conoly Realty in the mid 6o's. She later opened the Conoly Office Center and did bookkeeping for many of the farms and businesses in town. She went to work for the Texas Department of Human Services in 1992. She retired in 2010 to take care of her husband through his lengthy illness.
Martha was a caring person who would go the extra mile for anyone. She saw the good in everyone and every situation. Martha & John both loved Van Horn, their friends and family. In many ways they saw their little community as one big family. They loved their little house on 6th street and attending their Church in Van Horn.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Conoly, and her son, John Michael. She is survived by her sister Peggy Wagner, her son, Tim Conoly and his wife Dawn, daughters, Judy Horton, Mary Conoly, and Donna Mamrosh and her husband Darryl. Her grandchildren, Jake Engle, Sara Gray, Kara Munton, Lee Conoly, Ava Mamrosh, Lela Mamrosh, and Lauren Mamrosh. Her great grandchildren, Aiden and Bryce Engle, Peyton Coleman, Gage Munton & Kope Gray.
