Martha Tarango

Martha Alicia Tarango of Pecos passed away on Monday December 27, 2021 in her home. Alicia was born in Julimes Chih Mexico to Porfirio and Josefina Armendariz on July 27, 1943.Alicia was a bus driver for Pecos-Barstow Toyah ISD and helpful volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was the recipient of the Hidden Hero Award in 2012 in recognition of outstanding dedication and community involvement. As a bus driver, she would listen to the kids orally read as she drove them home. At report card time, she would give kids that would show her their honor card a dollar each. She knew the importance of an education and the hard work it took to achieve goals. Helping children was not the only way she contributed to the community. Whenever possible, she enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and visiting the sick at the nursing home. During days that Meals on Wheels were not delivered she would deliver tamales and empanades. To help Santa Rosa Church, she made many gorditas during 16th of September fiesta and on Sundays prepared breakfast meals. She also helped the church with funeral meals. When she was not cooking for her family, she enjoyed being a part of the political scene. Voting was a right that she appreciated. She was always an advocate for Pecos to grow and improve. To all that loved her, she was “Nani” to them.

Alicia preceded in death by her husband Manuel Tarango and son Gaston Tarango, parents Porfirio and Josefina Armendariz and brother Baldemar Armendariz

Alicia is survived by her daughter Maribel Alvarez (Pecos), her sister Luz Guerrero (Pecos) and Silvia Terrazas (Cardenas Chih), grandchildren: Mateo Tarango (San Antonio), Marissa Tarango (Pecos) Mysela Alvarez (Pecos) and Miranda Alvarez (San Antonio) great grandchildren Keelie and Kylie Sparkman. Also, son in Law Orlando Alvarez and daughter in law Mary Tarango.

Visitation will be held from 12 pm to 9 pm  Thursday December 30, 2021 at Pecos Funeral Home with a rosary at 7pm. Masks are required at all times at Pecos Funeral Home.

Funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday December 31, 2021 at Santa Rosa Catholic church. Masks are required at all times at the church with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos Texas.
