Mary Exum

Mary Vivian Exum of Midland passed away on May 18,2014 in Midland, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Friday the 23rd in the Manor Park chapel in Midland. Burial will follow at 4 pm at the Fairview Cemetery in Pecos, Texas. Arrangements are by Pecos Funeral Home.

Mary Vivian was born in Kaufman County, Texas to Ruby Inez and Grover Cleveland Nelson on November 11, 1918. She went to school in Las Cruses, New Mexico, Palestine, Texas and attended Baylor University. She married D.L. Tiner in 1939. D.L. passed away in 1950. On December 26,1953 she married James Byron J.B. Exum in Clarksville, Texas. For 21 years, she worked as a case worker for the elder and children for the Texas State Welfare Department both in Clarksville and Pecos, Texas. She took a break in her career for several years to raise her six children. She and J.B both retired in 1980 and moved from Pecos to Ruidoso, New Mexico. She lived in Ruidoso until J.Bs passing in 1999. Since 2000, she lived in the Village at Manor Park of Midland. She was a member of the Alamo Baptist Church in Midland.

Mary Vivian is preceded in death by her husband J.B. Exum, and her son Weldon Exum.

Mary Vivian is survived by her three sons, Nelson of Placerville, Calif., Bob of Kingwood and Rickey of Mineral Wells two daughters, Gail Jones of Jasper and Sharon Mitchell of Pecos two sisters, Jean Withers of Irving and Ruby Huggins of Santa Ynez, Calif. six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at the Helen Greathouse Assisted Living facility, Dr. Carolyn Rhode and the nurses and staff from the Hospice of Midland for the love, care and friendship provided Mary Vivian.
