Michael Louis Ortiz, 62, beloved brother and son, passed away on November 24, 2020 in Odessa, Texas he entered this world on February 4, 1958 in Pecos, born to Louis and Bennie (Guevara) Ortiz.

Mike graduated from Pecos High in 1976. Upon graduating high school, Mike earned a tennis scholarship to play and attend Schreiner Junior College where he successfully obtained an associate degree in education. He the received his bachelor's degree fro Southwest Texas State. Mike has a passion for education and coaching. He cared for his students and it brought him joy seeing them excel. It takes and incredibly special person to teach, especially special education and for him to do it for over 29 years tells a lot about his character. He works at Pecos Crockett Junior High School, Corpus Christi Moody High School, El Paso Hanks High School, Odessa Ector Junior High School and back to Pecos High School from where he retired in 2009. In 2010 he moved to Euless and taught drivers Ed and substituted at Euless Trinity High School until December 2013 when he fell ill and returned home to Pecos.

Mike was a talented and skilled golfer and tennis player. He won several golf and tennis championships. He was a die-hard Houston Astros fan and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He was gentle, kind and caring. He would give you his shirt off his back if he knew you were in need. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by numerous friends and family.

He is survived by his parents, and sisters Rowena (Lyle)Lyles, Nora (Joel) Jasso, Linda Carrasco, and Maria (Greg) Garcia and nieces and nephews Melissa (Edward) Pippen, Lee (Becca) Lyles, Dina Ortiz, Nicko (Kassy) Jasso, and Mark Garcia and great nieces and nephews Amarissa, Ashlyn and Aaric Jeremiah Pippen, Camila and Dylan Lyles, and Ace Joel Jasso.

A rosary will be held in the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. with interment to follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery at 4:00 P.M.

DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS, THE ROSARY WILL BE FOR IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY UP TO 25 PEOPLE AND A GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES.
