Terri Kaye Spence of Pecos passed away on June 30, 2019 in Pecos.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Pecos Funeral Home chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Goodwin of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Toyah Cemetery.
Terri was born in Sinton, TX to Raymond and Karen (Gustad) Hornberger on March 13, 1962. She graduated from Dickinson High School and then later earned her Associate Degree in General Studies Education from Odessa College. She married the love of her life, Warren Jay Spence, on August 3, 1985 at the First Christian Church in Pecos. She worked as a PIP clerk for Austin Elementary School, and was with the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD for about twenty years. On November 4, 2011, Terri’s family was completed with the addition of Adrian Christopher Spence.
Terri was involved in many community groups, but the most important to her was her church. Over the years she has taught Sunday School, lead Vacation Bible School, and directed Christmas programs for many, many youngsters at the First United Methodist Church. More recently, Terri is credited for holding this congregation together during some very difficult times as Lay Leader. Other groups she was involved with over the years include Girl Scouts, 20th Century Club, Relay for Life, the Emmaus Community, PHS Athletic Booster Club (President), the PAC swim team, and the Swimming Boosters.
Terri was preceded in death by her in death by her parents and her brother Ray.
Terri is survived by her husband Jay and son Adrian, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
