Victor Ybaven Hernandez, 81, of Balmorhea, Texas passed away peacefully, Friday morning
May 10th, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Victor was born in Brogado, Texas to Francisco and Teodora Hernandez on December 23,
1942. He married Magdalena "Maggie" Vasquez on November 29th, 1968 in Balmorhea, Texas.
Their 45 year journey together was a testament to the power of love, devotion, faith, and
partnership. In 1975, Victor along with his wife helped establish and worked as managers for
Kent Kwik Convenience store in Balmorhea. Years later in 1980, he and his wife purchased their
own store and opened it under the name Hernandez Chevron and later rebranded to Victor's
Citgo in the heart of Balmorhea. Together they owned and operated the store for 32 years, in
which they built relationships and made connections with people of the community and travelers
alike. The store was sold in 2012 and has since become an Uncle's Convenience store.
Outside of work Victor enjoyed many activities such as fishing, riding his bike, and watching
western movies. He also had an interest in cars and collected many classic vehicles across the
span of his life. Victor was also a devoted Catholic and held the Virgin Mary in the highest
esteem, finding solace and strength in her loving presence. He found immense comfort in
reciting the Rosary and other prayers, and despite suffering from dementia, his faith never
faltered even in his final days.
Family was very important to Victor, wearing his love for his family like a badge of honor. He
made it a point to let them know how much he loved and appreciated them as often as possible.
Despite coming from very humble beginnings, Victor's generosity knew no bounds, always
extending a helping hand to family, friends, and even strangers in need.
Victor is preceded in death by his father Francisco Hernandez, mother Teodora Hernandez, aunt
Mercedes Ybaven, wife Magadelena "Maggie" Hernandez, his son Samuel Hernandez, beloved
sister Anita Dutchover, brother in law Ismael Dutchover, and beloved brother Rafael Hernandez.

Although we are saddened by your loss; we find comfort in the signs that appeared when we
watched you take your last breath. With the misty rain that fell it gave us peace, for we knew
that God sent rain as a symbol of his blessing and provision for a be ginning in heaven. You will
be in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.
