May 17, 1925 — November 14, 2024

Woodland Howell Ivy, 99, of Pecos, Texas passed away on November 14, 2024 in Pecos.

Woody was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to John James Ivy and Marjorie Howell on May 17, 1925. He attended school in New Mexico, Arkansas, and graduated from Pecos High School in 1943. After graduation he joined the Navy and was in pilot training when WWII ended. Woody attended North Texas Ag College (UTA today) and UT Austin before meeting and marrying his lifelong partner Pola Jean Murrell. They married November 2, 1946 in the First Baptist Church in Sanderson, Texas and just celebrated their 78th anniversary.

Woody started his working career at Community Public Service Power Company as a meter reader. He worked his way up through 44 years of service to retire as a Vice President of Texas New Mexico Power Company in Silver City, New Mexico on June 1, 1990. After retirement Woody and Pola returned home to Pecos.

Woody was an experienced pilot who took his family on many excursions in his small airplane. He loved to boat and fish, and often took his family on water skiing trips to various lakes. Like his father before him, he was active in many civic organizations: Elks, Lions, Masons, Rotary, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the First Christian Church.

Woody is survived by his wife, Pola and four sons: Jim (Jeanine) of Pecos, Jack (Beverly) of Flower Mound, John Jay of Abilene, and Joel (Penny) of Lubbock. He is survived by six grandchildren: Kellye Ivy, Matthew Ivy, Joel Kirk Ivy Jr., Kyle Ivy, Emily Ivy, and Everett Ivy. Eight great grandchildren also survive.
